Objectives:
In order to live up to our vision, we have a set of six practical
objectives which we will follow.
1. To maximise the opportunities from the Games
delivery process to develop an environmental legacy for all -
which is attractive, clean, safe, sustainable and
accessible for all.
For example:
the critical response
the Council issued to the Olympic Delivery Authority when the
revised planning proposal for the Olympic Park was
submitted.
2. Maximising the benefits of the 2012 Games to
deliver a legacy which celebrates culture and diversity -
by building an active and inclusive community
For example: programmes to encourage sport and involvement
are supported by the 2012 Unit such as the
Go For It Grant
scheme.
3. Maximising the opportunities from the 2012
Games to deliver a legacy of improved health and well being -
where individuals and communities take more responsibility
for improving their own health and well-being
For example:
Health
and fitness programmes have been launched in Newham to
encourage healthy lifestyles inspired by The Games
4. To inspire and encourage participation and
engagement of all our young people for the 2012 Games - in
order to raise aspirations, develop self esteem and
confidence
For example:
Newham Sports Academy with Tessa Sanderson was launched this
year to encourage and support sporting talent in the borough.
5. To maximise the Games delivery process to
develop a thriving economic legacy - where all people share
in the growing prosperity
For example: Newham Council recently launched
Newham
Workplace, a new job brokerage service for employees and
employers in the borough.
6. To act as a strategic influencer across the
2012 delivery programme - in order to join up and promote
partnerships across Newham, London, the UK and Globally
For example: Newham regularly organises and
supports national and international
events in the borough which promote partnership
