Judo champ wins for England

01/01/2008
Newham Sports Academy member Theodore Spalding who lives in Forest Gate returned from January's Commonwealth Judo Championships in Mauritius with a gold and silver medal for England.
The eighteen year old has represented Great Britain on numerous occasions including the European Junior Championships last year. He has progressed from the GB junior to senior international squad competing at 100kg+ weight.

Theodore's cousin, Jermaine McIntosh, 17, is also a GB squad member, competing at 90-100kg and is GB junior champion.

Although they both receive funding through the national governing body British Judo, Newham Sports Academy has helped meet the additional costs of competing at international level. This is where the Newham Sports Academy can act to plug the gaps and give young people from Newham an equal chance to fulfil their potential.
