High Street 2012 Summer Picnic

18/05/2008
High Street 2012 is a project that aims to improve and celebrate the road that connects Aldgate with Stratford Town Centre. The team want to collect your dreams and aspirations for the streets and surrounding places along this route.
Join the High Street 2012 team for a 'Summer Picnic' and celebration of the rich cultures, history and the food of High Street 2012 - the street that connects Aldgate with Stratford and will be the last 6km of the 2012 Olympic Marathon.

The 'Summer Picnic' event which is part of the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) 2008 will take place on Saturday 28 June at the Mile End Waste, east of Cambridge Heath Road.

To give locals and visitors alike a new perspective on the route - and help build up an appetite - two guided walks will start and end at the Picnic. The walks will mix local stories with architectural insights into High Street 2012's many hidden gems. The morning walk, beginning at 10.30am, will head west from Mile End Waste to Aldgate, while the afternoon walk at 2.30 will go east to Stratford. Numbers on both walks will be limited, so advance booking is essential by clicking here.

For the more creative person there will be a jewellery workshop with Bernadette Deddens (www.bernadettededdens.com), a local jewellery designer. She will work with locals and LFA visitors from 12noon to 4pm on a charm bracelet representing the charms of High Street 2012.

Food and refreshments will also be provided at the event.
