Be a local tourist weekend a great success

Be a Local Tourist, showcasing Newham's own local attractions, received a major thumbs up from residents when it took place over an April weekend.
The event offered free entry, discounts and special offers to highlight local businesses and give local people a chance to discover places of interest on their doorstep.

All the guided tours, including walks round the Royal Docks, West Ham Football Club and Three Mills Studios, were fully booked and the 15 attractions that took part said they had an overwhelming response. Requests for the voucher booklets that gave free or discounted admission to venues were up 50 per cent on last year's pioneering event.

Around 1.2 million visitors are expected to visit Newham to see the London 2012 Games and the flagship campaign aims to prepare businesses and residents for the opportunities that will arise.
