About Newham

Newham is…host borough for the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Did you know that more than two thirds of the Olympic Park is in London Borough of Newham? The 500 acre Olympic Park stretches across London's Lower Lea Valley, creating the largest new London park since Victorian times (bigger than Hyde Park).

Newham's landscape is rapidly changing. Visit now and you'll see the Games vision coming to life. We expect 1.2 million visitors to come here in 2012, make sure you beat the crowds and discover it first.

Newham is…the best connected borough in London.

It is the only London borough you can both fly into (London City Airport) and catch a ferry to (the Woolwich Ferry).

Newham has excellent transport links by road, rail, tube and air. The A13 gives quick access central London and the M25 within 11 minutes, Canary Wharf can be reached in 17 minutes; London City Airport in just 20 minutes and Oxford Circus, Kings Cross, and Victoria Stations just 30 minutes.

Plus, award-winning Stratford International Station will soon offer a direct rail link to Paris via the Channel Tunnel.

Newham is… home to the youngest, most diverse population in the UK.

Take a walk around Newham and you'll find yourself immersed in a melting pot of cultures from all over the globe. Nowhere else in London will you find such wide cultural diversity. More than 40 per cent of the 254,000 people in Newham are under 25 years old and more than 100 languages are spoken locally - from Albanian to Zhuang. That's why we have an enviable selection of specialist shops, cafes and restaurants, selling everything from mangoes to pie 'n' mash.
