Newham Fit Club aims to help local
people become more active and improve their quality of life. Newham
Fit Club is a joint venture between Newham Council and Newham
Primary Care Trust (PCT) to give local residents ways to improve
their health, regardless of age, ethnicity or background.
The programme consists of a number of initiatives.
Lifestyle Journal The journal gives lifestyle
advice and tips on how to become more active and where to access
more self help information.
Roadshows Roadshows across the borough
highlight the advantages of being active and giving people advice
on where to access more information. Guests speakers are often
invited along to give advice on diet and health in the borough,
healthy eating, activities that are available etc.
The Roadshow travels around the borough to community centres,
seasonal community events and health fairs. Services include: BMI
(Body Mass Index - an indicator of whether your weight could affect
your health), blood pressure, height, weight and body fat
percent.
By registering with the Fit Club, you will get access to further
help and an information pack. Details of relevant activities will
be sent out to you, together with information about any prominent
events coming up.
The aim of the programme is to improve lifestyle, through physical
activity and healthy eating and above all for members to enjoy
themselves at our events and activities. Being healthy does not
always mean hard work, the hardest part for some is starting.
