Milestones in the run up to the 2012 Games.
2008
8-24 August - Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
6-17 September Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games
September - Cultural Olympiad begins after the 2008 Games

Top Ten Milestones for 2008
1. Complete clearing of the Olympic Park site
2. Cables supported by 52 pylons rerouted underground
3. Main temporary roads and bridges providing safe and secure access to the site built
4. New water and energy systems serving the Park during and after the London Games started
5. Environmental and access improvements around the Olympic Park's waterways started
6. Transport improvements to open up East London and support the 2012 Games started
7. Construction of bridge between the Aquatics Centre and Olympic Stadium sites started
8. Construction of the Olympic Village is expected to start in summer
9. Work on the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Velopark and Media Centre in the Olympic Park and at venues outside London started
10. Plans for how the Park will be used after the 2012 Games well advanced

2009
Construction begins on the Hockey Centre and Indoor arenas

2010
February-March - Vancouver 2010 Winter Games
Olympic volunteering programme launches
March - Construction begins on the Fencing Arena

2011
Completion and testing of venues
January - Construction begins on coach and car parks and training facilities
Tickets go on sale

2012
Friday 27 July - Sunday 12 August The London 2012 Olympic Games
Wednesday 29 August - Sunday 9 September The London 2012 Paralympic Games
